Gavin Cocker – Retiring as the South African Captain after 11 years.

Hannes Van Aswegen, our PASA Chairman, awarded Gavin Cocker with a framed South African shirt at the SA Champs Prize giving to pay tribute to his eleven years of captaincy. Gavin has decided to retire from International Men’s polocrosse after playing for his respective countries for the past 30 years. Gavin will still be playing top local polocrosse and is the ladies coach for the team touring to Australia in 2017.
Gavin started playing polocrosse at the age of six and has not missed a polocrosse season for the past 41 years! He was chosen to play for the Zimbabwean Men’s side at the age of 17. Gavin immigrated to South Africa in Dec 2003. He was selected to play for South Africa against New Zealand in 2004 and was also made the captain of the side. Gavin has captained the South African side ever since. Gavin is one of the only players in the world to have played in every single Quadrangular and World Cup since the first Quadrangular held in Pietermaritzburg in 1997.
Gavin’s passion is schooling horses and has made many a top horse over the years. He is married to Karen and has 2 children and 3 step sons who all play polocrosse. Gavin takes great pleasure in playing polocrosse with his family and loves it when he gets an opportunity to play in a team with his kids.
