UMPIRE’S REPORT – IPT 2010
IPT 2010 was amazing!!!!!!
We had certain senior players screaming- swearing- bellowing- performing- man all we needed was a marquee.
Umpires I thank you for putting up with (in my opinion- worst case of human behavior I have seen at Polocrosse since my involvement since 1984), the behavior of certain uncontrollable, bad tempered, ill mannered players.
An umpire is there to control a game as per the rules and to the best of their ability.- NOT TO TAKE VERBAL ABUSE, SWEARING, AND IN MY OPINION A TOTAL DISREGARD OF THE RULES OF POLOCROSSE.
I saw players, bumping players right off the line of the ball- not letting players in after riding them out of the field, elbows, wild stick swinging and more.
In the main game we saw players sent off- you disregard the rules- the umpire sends you off- one player twice in one game.
Umpires like Nick De Jong, Murray Phillips,Dick Wheeler, Wes Flowers, Ryk Rootman and others, had they been umpiring some lower divisions- certain individuals would have been sent off- not for the game but for the whole tournament.
SA Champs- I have black listed certain players in my book- I will see where you are playing, and I will not hesitate to recommend to the umpire of that game, to send you off at your 1st infringement- SO WAKE UP PLAYERS AND PLAY THE GAME AS IT SHOULD BE.
Unfortunately another player( this time a junior) was sent to hospital after a nasty accident- please be aware of all players and where they are at all times during your game.
I was very happy to see EP, WP, Mpumalanga, Gauteng teams at this tournament- we were still far below statistics of some 800 players at an IPT tournament. I was disappointed not to see OFS, as there are some good players there who could have upset the applecart, if OFS had sent a team. Natal teams again were very well represented with Northerns taking the A division.
We used 4 fields- 2 of them new fields not played this year.
SA Champs will see totally new fields being used
I thank the AUSTRALIAN UMPIRES BILL AND CHARLES- for their contribution in our tournament.
5 players failed to produce sufficient reasons for not doing umpire duties- Ashleigh will invoice the clubs, hopefully with further action from them too.
SA CHAMPS- will see harsher penalties on umpires not doing umpire duties.
Thank you again for those that did umpiring duties.
See you at SA CHAMPS
