Junior Classic 2016

A BIG THANKS TO OUR JUNIOR CLASSIC SPONSORS

This year, we made the playing field very competitive by putting teams together of equal strength and the same handicap to give the kids a more competitive playing field as Tony Higgs, our previous Director of Coaches,  started doing over the last couple of years.   This system once again proved very successful after we saw the amount of sudden deaths played over the weekend.

This year’s Junior Classic 2016 would have not been possible without our generous sponsors.  We urge you to support them with any necessary business in their fields.  In our A Section teams we the following sponsors sponsoring the six teams in this division namely; Pick ‘n Pay Vryburg, National Heavy Haulage, Rhino Truck Sales, SA Tool & Die cc, Branson Marketing and Russell James incorporated.

In the B Section teams we had 4 teams namely; East Coast Medical, Epol, Farm Fert and WOW Incentives and Events.  And most importantly our Future Stars Division made up of three teams namely CDS Transport, Oribi Organics and Bombers Equestrian Equipment.

The Juniors arrived at Brinestone farm on Wednesday 30th March and were divided into their age group. They were rotated between different coaches during Wednesday and Thursday where they learnt valuable horsemanship and polocrosse skills.  The teams were announced on Thursday evening after dinner. All the players received a Jnr Classic Hoodie, a playing shirt and a numnah. A huge thank you has to go to Sam Heynes our Jnr President, who organised all the kit for this event.  The A division draw followed a polo format and this enabled each team to play once a day. It was also interesting doing things a little differently to the usual way.  There were many teams who won by one  goal or in a sudden death, which made for some exciting polocrosse. There were players from the Cape and as far north as Limpopo. It was an amazing event for all the polocrosse juniors to make new friends from all over South Africa. Thank you to all the coaches who gave up their weekend to put something back into polocrosse. Thank you also to all the horse owners who were able to lend their horses to the players from afar.  With over 90 players playing at the junior classic and the display of such wonderful new talent,  one can only be positive about the future of polocrosse.

Thanks to the The Timm’s for the use of their facilities.  We look forward to the next bigger and better Junior Classic…
